A while ago (in the midst of the 800 snowstorms we've had), I began doing research to find pick-your-own farms around here. I am going to learn to put up this spring, and I wanted to figure out where I was going to get all the stuff I will put up. During my research, I came across Miller Farms Market, located just outside Fredericksburg. They sell all sorts of local produce, eggs, milk, cheese, flour, ice cream. I was determined to make a trek out that way as soon as the weather finally ended its onslaught. This past Saturday was the big day. It was my grandmama, me and my sister. We at breakfast at Bob Evan's and then headed out to find the market.
Well, it was so much more than I expected. There was a huge selection of meat and cheeses and different preserves. They also have an additional space that's devoted to crafts and things. There were spices, washcloths, quilts, soaps - even handmade rolling pins (I want to get one of these on my next visit!) It was a fun visit - so much to look at and admire. The girl who was working in the store was very friendly and helpful. I can't wait to go back in the spring when they have fresh fruits and vegetables. They also have a potting shed which you can use to pot the plants you purchase there (a big plus for those of us who live in apartments). My grandmama really liked it, too. I'm sure we'll be making the trip out there again soon!
We got totally lost after leaving the market. My grandmama decided we were going to take backroads to get to wherever we were going, and we basically did a driving tour of Civil War battlefields. We drove all over the place and then ended back where we started - ha! But we made it - and it was sooo worth the trip!
