I finally scanned the photos I took with my Diana at Hollywood Cemetery a few weeks ago. Not many of them turned out, but a few came out pretty cool.
Hollywood Cemetery is a gothic/Victorian-style cemetery overlooking the James River in Richmond, Virginia. It was designed in 1847 and many of Richmond's most famous folks are buried here. It's a beautiful place to visit. Lots of hills and old trees, and the view of the river is spectacular. There's all sorts of fancy mausoleums and statues throughout.
Hollywood Cemetery is the resting place of 3 presidents: James Monroe (his gravesite is pictured above - it's gorgeous), John Tyler, and Jefferson Davis.
There are 18,000 Confederate soldiers and 25 Confederate generals buried here. For me, the only section of the cemetery that makes me sad is the area where the Confederate soldiers are buried. Most of them were so young. That breaks my heart.
I love how it's been planned to seem "unplanned", as though it's the countryside - every time I visit, I discover something new.
